I’m working on a story idea that’s actually based off of a D&D that reminiscent of Warhammer 40k for those of you familiar with it. One of the main characters (a female if that happens to be relevant) has two dads who are both in the military with her. The story behind that is after her mom died the main chara wasn’t sent back to civilian life (soldiers are taken at 14 months for training) and instead stayed. After a few years her biological dad married another man and so now she has two dads. It’s a utopian like world so there’s none of today’s silly squabbles.

Because it’s just a D&D campaign right now I can easily change the fact that the main chara has parents in the military at all. I have a friend who thinks it’s pointless and will simply aggravate people who are against gay rights and will also lose me many readers. I believe it would help to support gay rights as I plan to develop them before even mentioning that they are in fact married. Even after the fact is made clear I don’t plan to really emphasize that she has two dads because in this society two dads are just like a mom and a dad. People don’t really care and the only thing strange is that she has immediate family who are also in the military.

So my question for all of you wonderful people is this, would you or would you not read a story that had a main character that had two dads?

To anyone who reads these things I am not dead, I took a break. From pretty much everything. I took down Road in the Dark to revamp chapters 1 and 2 and I am still doing just that, only a really started a few days ago. Right now I'm working on character sheets which I realize now are going to take me 4+ hours each, the template which I'm using can be found here: www.deviantart.com/art/Origina…
Yeah, it's long, and it's in-depth, and so far I have a list of like....fifty-two characters :iconwhatdidyoujustsayplz: Fortunately I don't have to do them all before starting chapter one, just three... hopefully. :iconimdeadplz: But hopefully it'll be worth the wait as I have an added surprise ;)

Books are dumb?

3 min read

The internet really is a wonderful thing, but books have their own spot, their own little nook if you would. Yes the internet makes everything so much more convenient in our everyday lives. It helps to make the pace of things that much faster because that's what we do. We move, and keep moving, never really slowing down for a minute to catch our breath. But with books you have to take a second, slow down, and stop. Take some time to breath and think. When you think, you start to understand things that didn't really occur to you before. Yes it's true you can look up a book and read it online easily enough, but what's the point in that? It makes your eyes feel dry and scratchy, your neck is kinked from being propped on your hand, and your back aching from being slouched in your chair for so long.

Computers aren't easily mobile, even laptops need special care so as to not overheat and crash or run out of battery. Take a computer outside and you have to deal with the glare of the sun or you risk it being damaged in some way. A book on the other hand can be taken anywhere. Slip it into your pocket or into a bag and you can carry an adventure with you no matter where you are. Or you can carry history along in your pocket. While computers are great inventions, the same with the internet, I don't think books get quite enough appreciation. After all, they've been around longer, seen more, have held more, and I would dare say they hold more wisdom than the internet.

My little facebook rant with a guy I barely ever talk to. We got onto the topic of books and told me that they are a useless waste of paper that some loser living in his mother's basement could write his fantasies on. Being a writer this kinda miffed me, especially considering that I told him that I was writing a story. After I wrote this and sent it he simply responded a few seconds after, "Books are still dumb"

I seriously don't think books get enough appreciation. I've heard so many people say that they hate books and they hate reading and it's something that I can't quite understand. I do understand that books can tedious at times, especially if you don't want to read or you don't like what you're reading, but at the same time if the same people who said they hate books took the time to find something that appeals to them, I think they might change their mind.

Editing

Hey guys just a quick journal to let you all know that I'm going to be fully editing chapter 1 and 2 of Road in the Dark. I have an idea of where I'm going to take the story and I read back through the first two chapters and can't help but wonder why... just why? :iconwhatdidyoujustsayplz: So I'll probably be taking them down for a short time while I fix them up. I also took down Sound the Bugle for spoiler reasons :iconyoucardplz:
Have a wonderful day!
